Jiang Shujie: Leading Change with Buy42 - Redefining Charity

“Through charity shops, we want to make changes in two aspects, people’s lifestyle and citizens’ attitude, which hopefully could lead to some changes in the world.”

As today marks the International Day of Charity, meet Jiang Shujie, an alumna of the School of Journalism and Communication who currently serves as the partner of Buy42, the first OMO charity shop in China.

While studying public management and interning at UN and charity institutions, Shujie paid particular attention to non-profit organizations, especially those with charity efforts in sustainable ways. After working as a volunteer, she joined Buy42 full-time to expand the scope of charity and get more people involved. “Buy42 means Buy For Two - when you buy something, you are not only doing it for yourself.”

Besides selling goods to raise money, Buy42 holds the vision to create jobs for people with disabilities and give them equal identification. Shujie regards her colleagues as precious treasures. “They all have extraordinary shining points which could contribute greatly to our work.” Her team also organizes hundreds of community activities annually, spreading the idea of charity.
