From May 23 to 25, 2025, the Precision Instrumentation Department "Pursuing Excellence" Doctoral Academic Forum, also the 791st Doctoral Academic Forum at Tsinghua University, was successfully held. Themed "Instrumentation Science and Optical Engineering", this year's forum featured 9 invited keynote speeches, 2 career development lectures, 59 oral presentations, and 57 poster presentations. The forum invited 34 experts and scholars to form an Academic Steering Committee, attracting more than 150 teachers and students from Tsinghua University, Peking University, Beihang University, Harbin Institute of Technology, Chongqing University, Beijing Institute of Nanoenergy and Nanosystems (Chinese Academy of Sciences), Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and other institutions.
Yang Fenghui, Vice Chairman of the Shunyi District Political Consultative Conference and Director of the District Science and Technology Commission, reviewed the profound historical connection between Shunyi District and the Precision Instrumentation Department at the opening ceremony, expressing hope for deeper cooperation in more fields in the future and expecting fruitful outcomes together. Zhang Gaofei, Party Secretary of the Precision Instrumentation Department, delivered heartfelt remarks to the doctoral students, encouraging them to polish their presentations with high standards, exchange cutting-edge ideas, enhance their academic literacy, and spark innovative inspiration. During the keynote session, Cui Junning, Dean and Professor of the School of Instrumentation Science and Engineering at Harbin Institute of Technology, presented the report "Ultra-Precision Environmental Control Technology for Atomic-Level Observation and Manufacturing", providing an in-depth analysis of frontier technologies in the ultra-precision field. Professor Sun Hongbo from Tsinghua University's Precision Instrumentation Department shared his report "Wielding Light as a Sword to Open New Frontiers of Civilization", presenting innovative explorations in optical engineering.
Students engaged in lively discussions around two major directions during the parallel sessions, encompassing instrumentation and optics. At Instrumentation Session I, Researcher Zhang Chi from Beijing Institute of Nanoenergy and Nanosystems (Chinese Academy of Sciences) delivered a report titled "Low-Quality Mechanical Energy Harvesting and Self-Powered Systems". At Instrumentation Session II, Assistant Professor Chen Jianyu from Tsinghua University's Institute for Quantum Information and Quantum Dynamics presented "Building General-Purpose Intelligent Humanoid Robots". At the Optics Session, Professor Zhu Tao from the College of Optoelectronic Engineering at Chongqing University gave a thematic report titled "Narrow-Linewidth Lasers and Development Trends". Associate Professor Sun Jingbo from Tsinghua University's School of Materials Science presented an academic report on "Structural Light Generation and Modulation Based on Spherical Crystal Materials". Associate Professor Fu Bo from Beihang University's School of Instrumentation Science and Optoelectronic Engineering shared a frontier report titled "Ultrafast Pulsed Fiber Lasers Based on Micro-Nano Materials and Applications". At the International Session, Assistant Professor Wu Yujie from the Department of Computing at Hong Kong Polytechnic University delivered an English academic report titled "Brain-Inspired Intelligence from Various Synaptic Learning Mechanisms". At the Frontier Cross-Disciplinary Session, Associate Professor Tang Jianshi from Tsinghua University's School of Integrated Circuits presented the academic report "Memristors and Neuromorphic Computing: From Brain Inspiration to Brain-Computer Interfaces".
Additionally, two alumni—Huan Yiheng, Co-Founder of MinoSpace Technology Co., Ltd., and Hu Tianjian, Vice President of Human Resources at Hesai Technology—shared their rich experiences through career development lectures for the students.
This forum also established the collaboration with the Shunyi District Human Resources and Social Security Bureau to carry out the "YI Exploring Beijing" Shunyi Technology Enterprise Visit activity and the "YIQI Future" Spring Recruitment and Internship Fair. Twenty-eight well-known industry enterprises brought 7,915 positions covering fields such as intelligent instrumentation, optical engineering, and automation control, attracting over 200 Tsinghua University undergraduate, master's, and doctoral students to engage in.
Liu Qiang, Director of the Precision Instrumentation Department, comprehensively summarized the forum's achievements at the closing ceremony, who reviewed the fine traditions of the Precision Instrumentation Department's Doctoral Academic Forum, highly affirmed the successful hosting of this forum, and expressed hope that the forum would continue to innovate and break through, consistently building a higher-quality academic exchange platform for teachers and students.
This forum realized a successful establishment of an academic discussion platform for universities and research institutes nationwide in the precision instrumentation field, vigorously promoting academic exchanges in this domain, significantly enhancing the academic influence of Tsinghua's precision instrumentation program, and offering solid support for postgraduate students to broaden their academic horizons, hone their academic abilities, overcome academic barriers, and strengthen their innovative awareness.
