“Give you a sky and you can fly”–DPI has created an ideal atmosphere for the extracurricular scientific activities of students. Every year, more than 40 students won important prizes in various scientific innovation competitions of the department level, the university level, the national level, and even the world level, such as“The Summer Scientific Innovation Competition of Tsinghua University” , “OptSci-Tech Competition of Tsinghua University”, and “The Challenge Cup of Tsinghua University”. These reflect the professional accomplishment and outstanding scientific and technological innovation abilities of the students. Furthermore, three new laboratories for student extracurricular scientific innovation activities have been established recently, which offer various training programs to improve the technical skills, innovation abilities, and interests of academic research of students. Furthermore, We have established the “Future Instruments” student interest team, hosted the “Lingjing Chuangxiang” Tsinghua University 2024 VR/AR Freshman Challenge and other competitions, built an interactive innovation platform for undergraduates and graduates, and nurtured high-level innovative projects.

The Department of precision instruments regularly holds science and technology salons, academic lectures, and other activities to promote the construction of study style and form a strong academic and cultural atmosphere. The annual “Doctoral Academic Forum” is attended by more than 100 teachers and students from well-known universities and scientific research institutes at home and abroad. Each forum publishes more than 100 high-quality academic papers, providing a good academic exchange platform.The Doctoral Forum has been awarded Tsinghua University's “Five-Star Doctoral Academic Forum”title for five consecutive years. The Precision Instrument Forum is held to stimulate students'academic interest and innovation enthusiasm by inviting celebrities and excellent friends in various fields to give lectures and reports to guide students to better plan their career; Teachers' Academic Sharing Meeting is held to broaden students' academic vision and promote academic exchanges between teachers and students; Micro salon on postgraduate education theme is held to invite famous academic teachers to share postgraduate education experience and methods, so as to establish the overall situation and sense of mission of postgraduate education.
