The functional party branch of the Nano-Optics Research Group of the Precision Instrument Department was established

On the afternoon of September 13, 2022, the inaugural meeting of the functional party branch of the Nano-Optics Research Group of the Precision Instrument Department was held in Room 401 of Building 9003. Zhao Cen, Head of the Party Committee’s Graduate Work Department, Zou Xin, Vice Head of the Party Committee’s Organization Department, Bai Benfeng, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Precision Instrument Department, Wu Guanhao, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the Precision Instrument Department, and all party members and activist students of the Nano-Optics Research Group participated in the event, which was chaired by Wu Guanhao.

During the meeting, Wu Guanhao read the "Decision on the Establishment of the Party Branch of the Nano-Optics Research Group, Tsinghua University." Feng Pengyi, the secretary of the party branch of the Nano-Optics Research Group, introduced the construction plan of the party branch and the work plan for the current year.

Professor Sun Hongbo, the academic leader of the Nano-Optics team, discussed the background and rationale behind the active application to establish a functional party branch for the Nano-Optics Research Group. He highlighted that personal development is closely linked to national needs and the demands of the era. As students of Tsinghua, they should always bear in mind their historical mission and responsibilities to the nation. He expressed the hope that through the construction of a functional party branch, the party organization's ideological guidance will be fully utilized to guide teachers and students to more firmly believe in communist ideals. By aligning team goals and personal development with national needs, they will work diligently to contribute to solving urgent national technological bottlenecks and to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

Bai Benfeng expressed gratitude to the school’s party committee and relevant departments for their care and support in exploring the establishment of a functional party branch for research groups within the Precision Instrument Department. By reviewing the ninety-year development history of the department, he emphasized that valuing the leadership of the party and strengthening the construction of grassroots party organizations are important experiences for the department to make continuous progress in all aspects of its work. The establishment of the party branch for the Nano-Optics Research Group is an important measure for the party committee of the Precision Instrument Department to explore further strengthening the party's leadership over scientific research teams and to promote the construction of grassroots party organizations in the new era. As the first functional party branch established within a research group at the university, he hoped that all teachers and students of the Nano-Optics Research Group party branch will take this opportunity to fully play the political leading role of the party branch, to explore good experiences and practices in strengthening team building, enhancing the role of party members, and promoting ideological and political education among students, and to set an example in grassroots party building.

Zou Xin noted that the Precision Instrument Department, by carrying forward the glorious tradition of "building the branch in the company," and exploring the establishment of a functional party branch within the research group, has positively significant implications. It tightens the party's organizational system, ensures the party's work is comprehensive and thoroughly reaches every aspect, and further integrates the ideological and political work of teachers and students, as well as the integration of party branch work with the central work of the research group. She hoped that the Nano-Optics Research Group's functional party branch will focus on practical results, reflect the characteristics of the branch, actively explore and summarize construction experiences, and strive to form a model.

Zhao Cen, in his summary, pointed out that the Precision Instrument Department's exploration in establishing a functional party branch within a major scientific research team is a good attempt in the school's grassroots party building work. It is significant for strengthening the effective coverage of grassroots party organizations, playing the vanguard and exemplary role of party members among teachers and students in scientific research teams, uniting team members to overcome difficulties in scientific research tasks, and enhancing ideological and political education. He hoped that the party branch will continue to strengthen organizational construction according to the construction plan of the functional party branch, unite and lead all members to maintain a spirited state, set an example in all aspects of work, and integrate ideological and political education into every aspect of the team's work to play a greater role.

The establishment of a functional party branch within an engineering team is an innovative measure taken by the Party Committee of the Department of Precision Instrumentation to further strengthen the comprehensive leadership of the Party and to explore ways to effectively extend and enhance the organizational power of grassroots party organizations in the new era. After review by the Party Committee of the Department of Precision Instrumentation on September 5, 2022, the "Construction Plan for Functional Party Branches within Research Groups of the Department of Precision Instrumentation" was approved, and the establishment of the "Nano-Optics Research Group Party Branch" was authorized. This is the first functional party branch to be established within an engineering team in the Department of Precision Instrumentation and represents a new exploration within the university at large. Through the innovation of setting up party branches directly within teams, it aims to enhance the grassroots party organizations' combat fortress role and the party members' vanguard exemplary role. This ensures that faculty and student party members take the lead in scientific research breakthroughs, project troubleshooting, and the completion of significant engineering tasks. They are expected to be at the forefront, showing their identity, making contributions, and setting an example, thereby closely uniting the team's staff and students around the Party, working together with concerted effort. Additionally, based on the construction of functional party branches, a powerful mechanism is formed to promote the guidance of learning and ideological and political education, further strengthening the exchange of academic guidance and ideological and political work within the research group, and fully leveraging the role of mentors in guiding the comprehensive development of graduate students. The Nano-Optics Research Group Party Branch currently has 21 party members among teachers and students, and 4 active members. The academic leader of the party branch is Professor Sun Hongbo, with 3 associate professors from the teaching and research series, 1 retired re-employed professor, and 2 staff members.
