Recently, Chinese Society for Optical Engineering announced the Outstanding Doctorate Dissertation selection result in the Second National Optical Engineering, in the year 2016. The thesis titled “Study on the Structure and Properties of Metal Nanostructures Enhanced by Multi-scale Cascade Field”, written by a doctoral graduate in Department of Precision Instrument, Tsinghua University, Zhendong Zhu, was awarded this prize. Mr. Zhu, advised by Associate Professor Benfeng Bai, was admitted to Tsinghua University in 2011 to major in optical engineering in the Department of Precision Instrument. He graduated in 2015 and received a doctorate. Currently he works in National Institute of Metrology.

The selection of the Outstanding Doctorate Dissertation in national optical engineering field is organized and implemented by Chinese Society for Optical Engineering. Papers participating in the selection process are usually written by people who were conferred their doctorate by domestic institutions one or two years before. This year the participated papers were divided into two categories, “basic research" and "application research". Through recommendation by degree-conferring institution , recommendation by expert from The Society Council, initial review by the office of the Council, communication review by peer expert, final review by the expert committee, a total of 7 outstanding doctoral dissertations were awarded and 11 outstanding doctoral dissertations were nominated this year.
