Program Overview
Tsinghua University Global Research Program provides a 6+ week immersive research experience for outstanding international undergraduates and graduate students from top global universities, including those from Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan. Leveraging Tsinghua’s high-quality laboratories and faculty expertise, the program adopts a “Lab Immersion + Faculty Mentorship + University-Wide Platform” model to deliver advanced research training and academic exchange, fostering global collaboration and building an interdisciplinary, cross-cultural community of young researchers.
Program Highlights
Research-Intensive: Full engagement in hands-on laboratory research; no coursework for credit.
Faculty Mentorship: One-on-one guidance from Tsinghua faculty with tailored research plans.
Interdisciplinary Focus: Cutting-edge themes include Carbon Neutrality & Energy System Transformation, AI for Science and Intelligent Computing, Intelligent Manufacturing & Smart Systems, Life Sciences & Health Innovation, and Interdisciplinary Innovation & Global Collaboration.
Cross-Cultural Engagement: Integrated with Tsinghua’s summer school ecosystem, enabling authentic campus life and multicultural exposure.
Program Timeline
Program period: January 1 – November 30, 2026.
Minimum research time: 6 weeks per student. Specific dates are flexible and can be arranged with the host laboratory.
Program Fee
Tuition and application fees are waived. Participant is responsible for any other costs.
Eligibility
Must be a non-Mainland China citizen or non-permanent resident of Mainland China
Currently enrolled as a full-time undergraduate or graduate student at an overseas university (must have completed at least one year of undergraduate study before starting the program)
Minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0 or equivalent
Proficient in English (Chinese not required)
Strong motivation and interest in research
Application Process
Step 1 Contact a Faculty Mentor
Identify potential supervisors via the program website: https://is.tsinghua.edu.cn/GSS.htm.
Reach out via email with your CV and research proposal. After obtaining the mentor’s verbal agreement, the mentor should confirm your placement with the Office of International Affairs.
Step 2 Online Application
Submit the following via the application system: http://www.gss.tsinghua.edu.cn/
Curriculum Vitae (in English)
Research Proposal (500–1000 words, stating research interests and objectives)
Latest official academic transcript
Proof of English proficiency (e.g., TOEFL ≥78, IELTS ≥6.0, or Medium of Instruction Certificate)
Copy of passport information page (Your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond the program end date and have at least two consecutive blank pages.)
1–2 recommendation letters provided in English
Published papers, awards, or supplementary materials (if applicable)
