Journal of Government and Economics Ranks in the Top 25% of Comparable English-language Economics Journals by Citations

Recently, Li Daokui, Director of the Academic Center for Chinese Economic Practice and Thinking (ACCEPT) at Tsinghua University, Senior Professor of Liberal Arts, and Co-President of the Society for the Analysis of Government and Economics (SAGE), introduced the latest developments in the Journal of Government and Economics (JGE), which was launched four years ago, at the Eighth Annual Conference of Government and Economics held at Tsinghua University. Launched in 2021, JGE is a high-end academic journal focused on government and economics. It aims to publish high-caliber academic papers in the fields of the relationship between the government and the market, and research on government behavior and incentives. It advocates the incorporation of government behavior and incentives into the analytical framework of economics, and communicates to the world research findings on socialist economics with Chinese characteristics. In just four years, the journal has ranked in the top 25% of comparable English-language economics journals by citations, with an impact factor of 3.5. JGE stands out for its fast review process, accessible and engaging content and broad reach, offering a remedy to the shortcomings - time-consuming review processes, low citations, and limited reach - that plague today's academic journals. Seeking to serve the academic community and policymakers, the journal is poised to be a new professional economics journal that is accessible and engaging, widely circulated, and focused on important topics, thereby facilitating the vigorous development of government and economics as an emerging branch of economics, as well as supporting high-quality economic growth. Li Daokui noted that traditional economic studies overlooked a fundamental fact: sound government behavior can drive the high-quality development of the market economy, while unsound behavior does the opposite. From a theoretical perspective, the relevant research papers published in the JGE fill an important gap in previous studies; from a practical perspective, the experiences of China and other regions in economic development urgently need to be elevated to theories that can guide further high-quality development and benefit the world at large.
