The Institute of Economics at the School of Social Sciences, Tsinghua University organized the 2017 National Excellent College Student Summer Camp activity between July 9 and 14, 2017. The event has received application materials from nearly 60 students at universities and colleges all over the country. Through the preliminary screening, 19 excellent college students from 12 universities, including Tsinghua University, Nankai University, Wuhan University, Renmin University of China, Xiamen University and Sun Yat-sen University, were chosen to attend the summer camp. Total scores of the 19 students in the first three years of their undergraduate education ranked among the top 10% places compared with their peers in the same majors and same grades of the same schools.
Through the six-day full and rich schedule, the campers were able to conduct face-to-face communication with professors at the Institute of Economics by means of special studies, academic reports, academic salons, interviews & written exams, seminars and other links, and finally completed the selection work through personal presentation and interactive discussion.
The life was rich and colorful for the campers in the week-long activity. They first visited the campus and the university history museum under the arrangement of the School of Social Sciences and deepened their understanding of our university, and Thomson Reuters, a world first-class provider of intelligence information. The campers also attended special lectures in political economics, new economic history, Chinese economy and Internet economy organized by the Institute of Economics, discussing academic issues with lecturers, as well as exchanged views on learning, life and vocational development & planning at Tsinghua University with doctoral students studying at the university and excellent alumni already graduating.
In the end, they spent a whole day on written exams and interviews, making the final effort to realize their dreamful major and study at Tsinghua University. The six-day tense and fulfilling summer camp has allowed them to be more familiar with the Institute of Economics, the School of Social Sciences and Tsinghua University, which provided a stage for them to showcase their capability and talent and strive to realize their dreams. Meanwhile, they have established a profound friendship with students and teachers of the university. The summer camp has yielded perfect results.
