Sustainable Solutions for Addressing Environmental Pollution
人类活动造成水、土、气的广泛污染。这些污染问题进一步带来健康的风险，并威胁生态系统安全。对这些环境问题的应对对于多个联合国可持续发展目标的达成至关重要，包括SDG 2, 3, 6, 11, 13, 14, 和15.未来我们必须开发创新性的可持续解决方案。
Anthropogenic activities cause widespread pollution in the air, water, and soil. Such environmental pollution can jeopardize human health and damage ecosystems. Addressing these pollution issues will be critical for meeting SDG 2, 3, 6, 11, 13, 14, and 15. It is imperative to develop innovative and sustainable solutions for addressing these issues.

侯德义，清华大学环境学院长聘副教授，博士生导师。主要从事土壤与地下水污染防治的科学研究和实践应用。先后毕业于清华大学（学士）、美国斯坦福大学（硕士）、英国剑桥大学（博士）。在环境领域有17年的研究和从业经验，具备注册环境工程师（PE-Environ），注册土木工程师（PE-Civil），注册绿色能源建筑师（LEED AP）等资质。在Nature、Science和Nature Climate Change等国际期刊上发表论文百余篇。主持科技部、生态环境部、自然基金委等20余项科研项目，主持和牵头编写多个国际和国内的技术指南与技术标准。现担任SCI期刊Soil Use and Management主编，以及Science of the Total Environment副主编，曾担任Journal of Hazardous Materials副主编。
Dr. Hou is an Associate Professor at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China. His research interests include sustainability of soil use and management, regional to global sources and distribution of heavy metal contamination, and green and innovative remediation technologies. Dr. Hou received his B.E. from Tsinghua University, M.S. from Stanford University, and Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge. Dr. Hou has published over 100 papers in top journals including Nature, Science, Nature Climate Change. He is currently serving as an Editor-in-Chief for Soil Use and Management, and Associate Editor for Science of the Total Environment.
Jinhui LI has a full time position of professor in Tsinghua University, and is responsible for the operation of Asia-Pacific Regional Centre for Hazardous Waste Management Training and Technology Transfer (Basel Convention Regional Centre in China) which is hosted by Tsinghua University, and supervised by the secretariat of Basel Convention, UNEP. His research focuses on management and treatment technology of e-waste and hazardous waste, pollution control engineering of solid waste, environmental risk assessment, and soil pollution remediation
鲁玺，清华大学环境学院副教授。哈佛大学工程科学博士。2010年至2015年再哈佛大学 John A. Paulson工程与应用科学学院工作，先后 担任博士后研究员、副研究员和讲师， 2015年加入清华大学，担任准聘/长聘 副教授、特别研究员。研究兴趣侧重于技术、经济和社会学的研究，零碳能源向碳中和社会转型的环境维度。主要研究领域集中在可再生能源、环境和气候的复杂系统建模、大规模部署风能和太阳能的综合解决方案、储能、温室气体和空气污染物排放清单以及碳中和城市化能源系统。在《科学》、《PNAS》、《自然能源》、《焦耳》、《自然可持续性》和《自然通讯》等杂志上发表了有关这些主题的论文。2010年获中国政府优秀自费留学生奖，2017年获国家优秀青年科学基金，2020年获国家杰出青年科学基金。
Xi Lu, is a tenured associate Professor in School of Environment, Tsinghua University. Dr. Lu received his PhD in John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences at Harvard University in 2010. Afterwards, he continued working at Harvard as a postdoctoral fellow, research associate and lecturer until joining Tsinghua in 2015. His research interests emphasize the study of technical, economic, and environmental dimensions of zero carbon energy sources in transitioning to a carbon neutral society. His primary research areas concentrate on modeling complex systems of renewable energy, environment and climate, integrative solutions for large-scale deployment of wind and solar power, energy storage, emissions inventory of GHGs and air pollutants, as well as carbon neutral urbanization energy systems. He has published papers in Science, PNAS, Nature Energy, Joule, Nature Sustainability and Nature Communications on these topics. He won the Chinese Government Award for Outstanding Self-Financed Students Abroad in 2010, and received the National Science Fund for Excellent Young Scholars in 2017 and the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars in 2020.
左剑恶，1991 清华大学学士，1995 清华大学硕士和博士，清华大学环境学院教授。主要研究方向：水污染控制理论与技术、高浓度有机废水/废物厌氧生物处理、雨水径流与城市面源污染控制研究、城市排水管网系统检测维护技术、新型废水生物脱氮工艺与技术、制药废水处理技术及耐药基因在环境中的归趋与去除。
ZUO Jiane is a Professor in the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering at Tsinghua University. His primary area of research focuses on the theory and technology of water pollution control, anaerobic biological treatment of high-strength organic wastewater/waste, rain water and urban non-point pollution control, assessment, evaluation and maintenance of sewer pipe systems, novel wastewater biological nitrogen removal technology, as well as microbial community structure, pharmaceutical wastewater treatment technology, occurrences transferring and removal of antibiotic resistance genes in the natural environment.
Dr. Jun Huang is a tenured associate professor in the School of Environment at Tsinghua University, and also the deputy director of Beijing Key Laboratory for Emerging Organic Contaminants Control (BKLEOC). Dr. Huang’s research mainly focusses on the behavior and control strategy of persistent organic pollutants (POPs), such as per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). He has published more than 100 peer-reviewed professional papers and is the holder of 10 patents. He won the first prize of the National Natural Science Award in 2017 as well as the MOE Natural Science Award in 2013 and 2019. He is now serving the journal of Chemosphere as the associate editor, is also the member of POPs professional committee of Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences, and the First Experts Committee on Environmental Risk Assessment of Chemical Substances, Ministry of Ecology and Environment.
Dr. Ming Zhao is an Associate Professor and Assistant Dean for Education of School of Environment, Tsinghua University. He is the founder of LBC Group (Lab for Bio-resource & Carbon-mitigation Technologies). He obtained his PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Sydney in 2010. He joined Tsinghua University after completion of his work at Imperial College London in 2014. Dr Zhao and his group possess expertise in thermo-chemical conversion of biomass (wastes) into clean energy and value-added chemicals, and CO2 capture and enhanced H2 production via Chemical Looping processes. LBC group has been funded by a variety of national grants and also keeps close collaborations with globally-renowned research groups such as ICL, Cambridge, USYD, UQ, etc. LBC Group has published 60+ peer-reviewed articles in recently years. Dr. Zhao also maintains linkage to industry and is the Deputy Secretary-General of Solid Waste Division of CAEPI (China Association of Environmental Protection Industry). He is also leading a technology incubation team for solid waste conversion and circular economy in RIET (Research Institute for Environmental Innovation (Suzhou), Tsinghua).
Dr. Chunyan Wang focuses on the water-energy-emission nexus (WEEN). Her research interests are the understanding of the general theory and methodology for WEEN, and simulation of WEEN in industrial and urban systems. She has published 20 peer-reviewed articles (12 first-authored articles), among which 14 are SCI articles (8 first-authored articles). One of her works was recognized as Highly Cited by ESI in 2019. She is authorized with 4 software copyrights. She presides over 1 National Youth Science Foundation Project, and participates in 2 National Natural Science Foundation Projects and 1 Major Project of the Ministry of Science and Technology.
School of Environment (SOE) of Tsinghua University has accumulated a considerable amount of experience in conducting research in a wide range of issues and disciplines, including water supply, wastewater treatment, air pollution control, solid waste management, environmental chemistry, microbiology, ecology, energy and resources, environmental simulation, and environmental policy and management. SOE provides students with a global perspective as well as the ability to contribute to the field of environmental science and engineering.
