Tsinghua alumnus on the frontline in the fight against Covid-19

Huang Zhongliang, a Tsinghua alumnus from the Department of Engineering Physics, has been using his engineering skills to help fight against Covid-19 in a remote village in Guangzhou Province.

Huang, who completed his doctoral degree in 2020, has been volunteering in the village since April, helping optimize nucleic acid testing by focusing on real-time data aggregation.

When he arrived in the village, he noticed that due to poor network signals and other technological difficulties, it took up to nine hours for health workers to scan the villagers’ health code and complete the nucleic acid testing process. So, using modeling analysis and other computer software, he has helped cut the whole testing process from nine to less than three hours.
