Since its establishment in 1911, Tsinghua University has consistently maintained its position as the top school in China. But, in terms of the WORLD'S top universities, Tsinghua still lags behind.

President Wang Dazhong says a top-class university should be a top-level research school.

Wang Dazhong says to be rated among the world's first-class universities, Tsinghua must produce excellent graduates, who can make great contributions to society and the world. Second, the school should be an international center for the study of major disciplines and make important achievements in the research field.

Wang also says having a core of highly respected teachers and sufficient research funds are further signs of a top-class university.

The president concedes that to be one of the worlds best is a relatively high goal, but he says Tsinghua is one hundred percent confident of achieving that aim.

Wang Dazhong says that Tsinghua has the best students in the world. Every one of them is chosen from among millions. And Tsinghua always pays great attention to developing talents. Also, Tsinghua already has the basic structure of a comprehensive school, as do many first-class schools around the world. (CRI News)
