Universities join hands for learning

Both China and Singapore vowed recently to enhance co-operation in the information and communication fields through the launching of postgraduate and faculty exchange programmes between elite universities from each country.

Under the auspices of Infocomm Development Authority (IDA) of Singapore, the computer school of the National University of Singapore (NUS) and the computer schools and departments of 10 Chinese universities, including Tsinghua, Peking, Fudan, Zhejiang and Nanjing universities, recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on academic and faculty exchanges.

According to the programme, the IDA pledges to create opportunities for Chinese students to study in Singapore by providing air tickets and accommodation to help them experience local culture and life.

In addition, Singapore's IDA and NUS are considering two further kinds of co-operation with Peking, Tsinghua, Shanghai Jiaotong and Fudan universities: launching second degree training programmes and establishing a joint research centre.
