An exhibition is being held at the Visual Art Center at the Academy of Fine Arts of Tsinghua University, presenting more than 140 pieces of paper-cutting works by artists from China and Switzerland.

"With more than a thousand year's history in China, paper-cutting is often deemed as one of the most important Chinese folk arts and in Switzerland people also love reflecting their lives through paper-cutting," explained curator of the exhibition Yu Hao at the opening ceremony Saturday.

Four Chinese paper-cutting artists from China were invited to live in eastern Switzerland and they created a series of works reflecting the landscapes and cultural activities there, according to Yu.

Although using the same material and techniques, works displayed by the Swiss artists are quite different from the Chinese ones. Swiss artists often reflected their thoughts in an abstract way, offering Chinese art lovers a new insight into viewing the old art form.
