Aug. 24, 2010 (China Knowledge) - Tsinghua Tongfang Co Ltd<600100>, a Beijing Tsinghua University-based enterprise engaged in the information and energy industries, on Aug. 22 announced plans to invest around RMB 3 billion to build a LED base in Nantong Economic and Technological Development Zone, Jiangsu Province, sources reported.

President Lu Zhicheng said that the firm hopes to become China's largest or the world's third largest LED chip producer in the next three years. 

The Shanghai-listed firm will manage and operate the base through Tongfang (Nantong) Science and Technology Park Ltd, and the base's designed annual output will include 2 million LED modules, 2 million LED TVs, 1 million LCD TVs and 500,000 blue-ray DVD players. 

Reportedly, Tsinghua Tongfang has another two LED bases in Beijing and Shenyang of Liaoning Province, and the Shenyang base has been put into massive operation.
