Tsinghua develops domestic 3D video chips

The Chinese public will be able to watch three-dimensional videos on convention home television sets by simply wearing 3D glasses within three years, an achievable future predicted by Tsinghua Professor Dai Qionghai.

Recently Tsinghua University has announced a significant technology breakthrough in converting two-dimensional video to three dimensions, according to a news conference held by Tsinghua University on March 20 about the "Qing Cubic" stereo video chips.

This technology converts monoscopic video to high-quality stereoscopic video, thereby providing high-end technological support with core competence for the digital TV, mobile terminal and film production sectors to enter the 3D video field.

In the field of digital media, 3D video technology stands out as a developing trend. It provides audience the 3D perception and high telepresence scene.

Throughout the 10 years work, Tsinghua has independently developed a series of key technologies such as 2D-3D conversion, 3D video clip collection, production, coded transmission and broadcasting of 3D videos.
