Beijing, Oct.8 (People's Daily Online) Two top-ranked universities of China and the United States launched a program in Beijing on Monday to foster future leaders in China's logistics and supply chain industry.

The EMBA program jointly run by Tsinghua University and University of North Carolina (UNC) is the first dual-degree program in supply chain management and logistics, which provides a new interdisciplinary study by integrating engineering with business administration

China is turning into the most important manufacturer in the world, which requires many business leaders with global views, innovative thinking, solid management theories and abundant management methods. Therefore, the program aims to foster China’s Steve Jobs, said Professor Zheng Li, director of Department of Industrial Engineering of Tsinghua University.

China witnessed the rapid development of manufacturing industry in the past 25 years, but there is a shortage of talents and techniques on management, operations and human resources. That is why UNC partners with Tsinghua to offer the unique joint degree, explained Professor Jayashankar Swaminathan, associate dean of UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School.

The program is jointly established by Department of Industrial Engineering of Tsinghua University and UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School. It will not only make great contributions to the development of China's logistics and supply chain industry, but also serve as a bridge to promote bilateral trade, commercial cooperation as well as mutual exchanges and understanding between the two countries, added Professor James Dean, dean of UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School.

The program originates from the UNC-Tsinghua Center for Logistics and Enterprise Development which was opened in July 2007.

Since 2005, UNC Kenan-Flagler and Tsinghua have established a record of achievement and expertise in logistics engineering and management.

Department of Industrial Engineering of Tsinghua University, founded in 2001, takes lead in teaching, learning and research of logistics and supply chain in Chinese mainland.
