Student Art Group demonstrates Chinese culture

Crossing cultural as well as physical boundaries, students from the Tsinghua University Student Art Group brought a series of cultural exchange performances to London, England, and Galway, Ireland, from August 10th to the 17th.

These exchanges included symphony concerts and joint outdoor performances, both of which were praised and enjoyed by those in attendance.

With an ensemble of both formal and traditional Chinese instruments, as well as traditional Chinese Opera costumes, it was hard not to feel transported to the era of ancient China.

On August 11th, the student symphony orchestra gave its first 'Tsinghua Night' performance at St. John Smith's Square, London. Consisting of two sections, the concert program included traditional Chinese songs like Jasmine and The First Symphony Prelude, as well as many well-known classical masterpieces.

The second concert took place on August 14th in Galway, Ireland, and was well received by those out for an evening of live music. The following day, the group took a trip to the National University in Galway and gave a joint performance on campus.

Music crosses boundaries, regardless of language or customs, and Tsinghua was proud to have had the opportunity for such an impactful cultural exchange.

Through a series of activities varying from Chinese folk music and Beijing Opera to ballroom dancing, Tsinghua’s Student Art Group helped strengthen cultural ties not only between both universities, but even more so between China and the United Kingdom and Ireland.
