Tsinghua University Art Museum Inaugurated

Tsinghua University Art Museum was inaugurated at a ceremony held on April 24.

Tsinghua University President Qiu Yong, Vice President Ji Junmin, Vice President Yang Bin, President Assistant  Wang Shoujun, Chairman of Century Golden Resources Group Huang Rulun, President of Century Golden Resources Group Huang Tao, and the director of Tsinghua University Art Museum Feng Yuan attended the ceremony.

The museum, which opens to the public in September, will house a combination of collections and exhibitions, as well as research and education facilities.

As well as being available and enjoyed by staff and students, the museum will also be open to the public. It will help in artistic communications and culture exchange.

Tsinghua University Art Museum, with an overall floor space of 30,000 square meters, was designed by Swiss Architect Mario Botta, famed for designing the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art in the U.S.

Six categories of paintings and calligraphy, textile, ceramics, furniture, and bronze ware make up a collection of over 13,000 items, including works by famous artists through Chinese history such as Zheng Banqiao, Qi Baishi and Xu Beihong.  Some ceramic works exhibited can be traced to the Neolithic Age.

The museum aims to form a platform for a series of both academic and artistic public educational activities, consisting of academic lectures, ceramic workshops, and a Pottery Art Making workshop, as well as a screening room for videos.

Membership details and the recruitment of volunteers will be launched soon.
