Inaugurations of Tsinghua University School of Economics and Management North America Alumni Association, Western US Chapter, Eastern US Chapter, Eastern Canada Chapter and Western Canada Chapter

On April 18, 2015, the inaugural ceremony of Tsinghua University School of Economics and Management (Tsinghua SEM) North America Alumni Association and Western US Chapter was held in San Francisco. Following that, the Eastern US Chapter, Eastern Canada Chapter and Western Canada Chapter of Tsinghua SEM North America Alumni Association were established in New York on April 19, Toronto on 20 April and Vancouver on 22 April, respectively. Professor QIAN Yingyi, Dean of Tsinghua SEM, WANG Haitao (MBA 2012-Finance), Director of Tsinghua SEM Alumni Office and Secretary-General of Tsinghua SEM Alumni Association, GUO Shaozeng (EMBA 2010), President of Tsinghua SEM North America Alumni Association and NI Weidong (EMBA 2011), Secretary-General of Tsinghua SEM North America Alumni Association attended the ceremonies. The events were also joined by Tsinghua SEM alumni and representatives from local political, business and academic circles.

Tsinghua SEM Dean QIAN Yingyi addressed at four inauguration ceremonies. In his speeches, Dean QIAN thanked alumni and distinguished guests for their attendance. He said that the School attaches great importance to the mutual development of alumni and the School, which is evidenced by the establishment of multiple alumni associations. The North American Alumni Association is the third and largest overseas alumni association of Tsinghua SEM, and was preceded by the School’s Hong Kong Alumni Association and Southeast Asia Alumni Association. The North America Alumni Association includes four chapters, including Eastern US Chapter (New York), Western US Chapter (San Francisco), Eastern Canada Chapter (Toronto) and Western Canada Chapter (Vancouver). Dean QIAN pointed out that the creation of an education that adapts to the economic and management globalization is a new challenge faced by the Chinese higher education institutions. Establishing overseas alumni associations is an important step in the School’s global strategy 2.0. Since the founding of the School in 1984, the School has seen degree program alumni and non-degree program alumni grow to more than 26,000 and 60,000, respectively. Among the overseas alumni, quite a few of them are in North America; some have chosen to settle here permanently while others are either working on projects or exploring opportunities. Fulfilling the needs of alumni and the School’s global strategy is the main motivation for the establishment of the North American Alumni Association.

Dean QIAN Yingyi announced the inauguration of Tsinghua SEM North America Association, the Western US Chapter, the Eastern US Chapter, Eastern Canada Chapter and Western Canada Chapter, and presented letters of appointment to the Presidents, Vice-Presidents, Secretary-Generals and Vice-Secretary-Generals of the Alumni Association and its four chapters.

GUO Shaozeng (EMBA 2010), President of Tsinghua SEM North America Alumni Association, ZHAO Zhen (EMBA 2002), President of the Western US Chapter, HU Jian (Bachelor’s 1983/Master’s 1990), President of the Eastern US Chapter, SUN Donghui (EMBA 2002), President of Eastern Canada Chapter and FU Minying (EMBA 2003), President of Western Canada Chapter, all shared about the preparation work for the alumni association or the chapters and the current status.
