Tsinghua SEM Undergraduates Win Second Runner-up Prize in Sauder Summit Global Case Competition 2015

The 2015 Sauder Summit Global Case Competition came to an end on March 13 in Vancouver, Canada. Tsinghua Team consisting of 4 undergraduate students LIN Yangrui, LONG Qianqian, ZHAO Jianan and ZHAO Xuanyu successfully broke into the finals among 12 world-renowned business schools and won the 2nd runner-up prize in the end. The team instructor was Associate Professor JIAO Jie.

Held annually by the Sauder School of Business, University of British Columbia, the Sauder Summit Global Case Competition is one of the world’s major case competitions for undergraduate students. Each year, 12 teams from world-leading business schools are invited to participate in the competition. During the game, contestants will have access to a real company and then work out feasible and innovative strategies for the company to tackle problems and potential risks in real business environment.

The competition has three rounds: Preliminary, Knockout, and Final. The Preliminary Round consists of 2 five-hour cases. The Knockout round is a 24-hour case. Tsinghua Team won the 1st place in both Preliminary and Knockout Rounds, and entered the Final Round with the total scores ranking 1st. In the Final Round, the four finalist teams will present the 24-hour case to a large judging panel and audience. The presentation time is 20 minutes, followed by another 15mins Q&A session.
The case company for the 2015 competition was Molson Coors, Pan America and Glentel. Participating teams were required to make future strategies and implementation plans for the companies. Following fierce competitions, teams from UNC Kenan-Flagler, Copenhagen Business School, QUT Business School and Tsinghua University were final-listed.

Tsinghua SEM contestants won the second runner-up prize in the finals. Team from QUT Business School won the champion of the competition.
Each year, Tsinghua SEM selects a group of sophomore and junior-year undergraduates to take the “Business Case Analysis” course. Students with the best performance in the case study will be selected to compete in a series of international case competitions. In the past several years, Tsinghua SEM team has participated in CBS Case Competition in Denmark, CICC Case Competition in Hong Kong, HSBC/MCKINSEY Case Competition, NUS Case Competition in Singapore, TUBC Case Competition in Thailand and won multiple awards.
