Tsinghua Student Won First Prize in National English Speech Competition

The 2014 National Public Speaking Competition closed in Beijing on March 24th. Yang Huameng, a sophomore from the Dept. of Foreign Languages and Literatures, together with her tutor Prof. Wu Xia, won the First Prize. There are about 100,000 participants from over 20 provinces and regions around the country signed up for the competition. Since last June, contestants nationwide whittled down to 18 finalists through a series of online, campus and regional rounds.

The "21st Century Cup" Competition has been successfully held for 19 years. It has become the most popular English competition in the nation. The competition also invites speakers from Korea and Thailand to give speeches.
