The Econometric Society was founded in 1930. It is an international society for the advancement of economic theory in its relation to statistics and mathematics. Its main object is to promote studies that aim at a unification of the theoretical-quantitative and empirical-quantitative approach to economic problems and that are penetrated by constructive and rigorous thinking similar to that in the natural sciences. The Econometric Society is the most prestigious learned society in the field of economics. It publishes Econometrica, a top academic journal in economics in the world.

To be eligible for nomination of a Fellow, a person must have made original contributions to economic theory or to such statistical or mathematical analyses as having a definite bearing on problems in economic theory. Election as a Fellow of the Society is an academic honor that represents recognition of the person’s highly regarded contributions to economics.
