Three years after Tsinghua University and the International Center for Journalists launched a ground-breaking Global Business Journalism Program, the Tsinghua School of Journalism and Communication recently initiated an M.A. Program in International Journalism.
Senior journalists and other experts from Xinhua News Agency, China Central Television, China Daily, China Radio International and Global Times were appointed to serve as adjunct professors for the program. Former People’s Daily Editor-in-Chief and dean of Tsinghua School of Journalism and Communication Fan Jingyi presented certificates to these newly appointed professors.
“This program will elevate journalism in China to a new level,” said Li Xiguang, executive dean of the Tsinghua School of Journalism and president of Tsinghua International Center for Communication Studies (TICCS).
“The M.A. Program in International Journalism and Communication Program was established to address the need for excellent international journalism talent around the world,” Li said.
The M.A. Program in International Journalism and Communication encompasses two years and is designed to impart advanced training to senior practice-oriented journalists. In addition to being equipped with solid Chinese and English language skills, they are expected to be well grounded in Chinese and world history and culture, understand what is happening around the globe, and comprehend current journalism and communication theories.
Students in this program are required to do extensive practical work and take courses that cover such topics as global economics and finance, television and broadcasting production, intercultural communication, and international communication. Each student will have an opportunity to do an internship in one of the top mainstream media organizations for at least six months. Furthermore, every student will have one media expert and one Tsinghua scholar serving as his or her co-supervisors.
