Law School Celebrates 10th Anniversary of Re-establishment

 

The Law School celebrated the 10th anniversary of its re-establishment April 24, with a conference in the Main Building attended by university and governmental leaders and many of the school’s outstanding alumni.

Tsinghua President Gu Binglin gave a speech at the event, congratulating the Law School for its achievements in the past decade. He encouraged the faculty and students of the School to seek exciting and challenging aspects of their profession, and to inspire each other in ways that will rank Tsinghua Law School among the world-class law education institutions.

Since its original establishment in 1929, Tsinghua University's Law School has graduated many famous legal scholars, judges and lawyers, such as the late judges Wang Tieya and Mei Ru-ao and Justice Duanmu Zheng of the Supreme People's Court. In 1952, the School was merged into Peking University and other universities due to the restructuring of higher education in China.

Tsinghua Law School was re-established in 1995, in response to the country’s call for establishing and enhancing the rule of law in China.

At present, Tsinghua Law School is one of the largest law schools in China, with more than 2,000 students and more than 50 faculty.
