Executive Director of Schwarzman Scholars Sir Nigel Thrift Delivers Speech at Tsinghua

Executive Director of Schwarzman Scholars Sir Nigel Thrift visited Tsinghua on 5th, April, and delivered a speech titled “Why geography is important: the different ways that space makes the world different”. Tsinghua Vice President Yang Bin hosted the speech.

Dr. Thrift begins his speech with the most obvious and fundamental aspects of space, for instance,  how we know where we are and how we feel where we are. He also explains how space has been transformed as we moved into a period in which human creations have produced the Anthropocene.

Sir Nigel Thrift is one of the world’s leading human geographers and social scientists. He was appointed as Executive Director of Schwarzman Scholars in January 2016. He was the former Vice Chancellor and President of the University of Warwick, and served in the position from 2006 to 2016.
