Thai Princess opens architectural symposium at Tsinghua


Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand visited Tsinghua Tuesday to open a two-day international symposium organized by the university's Architectural Heritage and Research Institute.

The symposium, 'Liang Sicheng and the Temple of Buddha’s Light, Vernacular + Heritage International Symposium',  looked at the life of the celebrated Chinese architect, as well as architectural heritage and Village conservation.

Following a meeting with university administrators, the princess was welcomed by Zhuang Weimin, Dean of Tsinghua's School of Architecture."This seminar is significant to both academic world and the society as a whole, hoping to better protect the vernacular architecture and culture in a natural and sustainable way," said Sirindhorn.

During the meeting with President of Tsinghua University Qiu Yong, Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn expressed the hope that there would be further and tighter exchange and cooperation in culture, education, technology, medicine and other fields between China and Thailand, to contribute to the development of relations between two countries.

Leading academics and experts from China, the United States, France, Italy, Japan and Thailand participated in the symposium. They included Pietro Laureano, a UNESCO Consultant from Italy and Michael Herzfeld, from Harvard University, as well as many other eminent specialists.
