Tsinghua University and Volvo Group Establish Greater Cooperation

Tsinghua University President Qiu Yong welcomed Volvo Group President and CEO Martin Lundstedt to Tsinghua University on March 19. Mr Lundstedt and President Qiu had a cordial discussion in the Gongzi Hall, followed by the joint signing of the "Tsinghua University - Volvo Group's Academic Partner" agreement.

President Qiu welcomed the delegation and thanked the Volvo Group for their ongoing cooperation and exceptional support.

"Tsinghua University has entered a new long-term phase of development.  Tsinghua’s efforts in the areas of innovation, openness and internationalization are at the forefront of this development. Tsinghua and Volvo are working towards a green economy and sustainable development research center that will attempt to address critical challenges facing the planet, specifically those related to the environment and climate change.  This agreement deepens Tsinghua University and Volvo Group existing fields of cooperation.  I am hopeful of even further areas of cooperation and exchange in future,"said President Qiu.

Mr Lundstedt introduced Volvo Group's business development, and mentioned examples of Volvo’s existing cooperation with Tsinghua University. Mr Lundstedt expressed his hope of further strengthening Volvo and Tsinghua cooperation on sustainable development and academic exchanges.

The event was attended by Volvo Group’s Chief Sustainability Officer and Vice President, Niklas Gustafsson and Dean of Tsinghua University’s Laboratory of Low Carbon Energy, Jian Kun; as well as students and members of various Tsinghua University departments including the International Office, Tsinghua SEM and the Career Development Center.
