School of Pharmaceutical Sciences established at Tsinghua

Tsinghua University has established a new School of Pharmaceutical Sciences (SPS), the fourth school committee meeting announced.

The SPS replaces and succeeds the Department of Pharmacology and Pharmaceutical Sciences (DPPS), which was formed on November 10, 2012 as a specialized department affiliated to the School of Medicine to focus on pharmaceutical sciences-related fundamental and applied research.
Multiple Research Disciplines
Since Tsinghua University established the School of Medicine more than 10 years ago, pharmacology and pharmaceutical sciences have always been key research disciplines with continuing development and enrichment.
Currently, the fast-expanding School of Pharmaceutical Sciences covers multiple research disciplines including:
structural biology and target identification
medicinal chemistry
computer-aided drug design
pharmacology and toxicity
pharmaceutics and drug delivery
natural products medicinal chemistry
modern research on traditional Chinese medicine
and other related fields.
With the establishment of the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, more undergraduate and graduate students are expected to join the new school under various educational programs.
Independent Research Labs
The School of Pharmaceutical Sciences has established close to 20 independent research labs guided mostly by outstanding young scientists, many of whom completed their Ph.D. and postdoctoral training in top research institutes.
Some of them also have years of research and development experience in global innovative pharmaceutical companies.
The research labs in the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences will focus on various research topics related to new drug targets, innovative drug design, and new technology in pharmaceutical research and development.
The research involves many national and international collaboration with research institutes and pharmaceutical companies.
