Global Gender Equality Campaign Launched at Tsinghua

April 12th 2015 2:00pm afternoon, the launch of the UN women global “HeForShe” campaign was hosted in Tsinghua University Beijing China. HeForShe is a solidarity movement designed to engage men and boys around the world to join the gender equality conversation, it calls on men to support women’s right and give women more opportunities to develop their own career and dreams.

Regional Director of UN Women Asia and the Pacific and Representative in Thailand Roberta Clarke, Ms. Mu Hong, director-General, International Liaison Department of the All-China Women’s Federation, and Professor Zhang Yi, Vice Provost of Tsinghua University attended the event.

In the opening remarks, Roberta Clarke said: “We ask for awareness, we ask for social change” she highlighted that the HeForShe campaign not only want people to know about it, but want people to do something about it. If you join the HeForShe campaign, it means that you will reject gender violence and inequality. During the opening remark Mr. Zhang Yi also said that as the China government promised, more and more universities will establish gender equality education. Enforcing the HeForShe campaign in China not only will help women to gain their own rights, but also the campaign can educate men in China how to respect girls and women. The director general Ms. Mu Hong refer that china had already began to focus on women’s rights.
