Tsinghua President Chen Jining Appointed New Judge for Queen Elizabeth Prize for Engineering

The Queen Elizabeth Prize for Engineering has announced the appointment of Tsinghua University President Chen Jining to its international judges’ panel.

He has joined the panel of distinguished judges which includes leaders from a wide range of engineering disciplines from around the world.

Speaking on his appointment to the judges’ panel, Dr. Chen commented: “From nanotechnology to space technology, from treating diseases to preserving our environment, engineering has been the essence of nearly every innovation and advancement of mankind. I am privileged to join, from China’s perspective, the Queen Elizabeth Prize for Engineering panel, to celebrate with fellow engineers their achievements in solving global challenges, and most importantly, to inspire our future engineers who will continue to make a difference to humanity.”

Lord Alec Broers, Chair of the Judging Panel, said “I am delighted to be leading this distinguished group of panelists. Drawn together from across the world and spanning the engineering disciplines. These judges are internationally-renowned leaders in the fields of science and engineering who possess the huge breadth of expertise and wisdom needed to decide who will win this uniquely important prize.”

Nominations for the second Queen Elizabeth Prize will close at 12:00 BST on 14 July 2014. The winner(s) will be announced in early 2015.

The Queen Elizabeth Prize for Engineering is a global £1 million prize that celebrates the engineers responsible for a ground-breaking innovation that has been of global benefit to humanity.
