Chair of the Board of the Nobel Foundation Delivers Speech

Professor Carl-Henrik Heldin, Chair of the Board of the Nobel Foundation, visited Tsinghua University on March 10th and delivered a speech to the Tsinghua Forum. Tsinghua University Vice President Xue Qikun attended the speech.

During his speech, entitled “History, Mission and Vision of the Nobel Prizes”, Professor Heldin introduced the founding of the Nobel Prize, and some institutions and organizations related to the prize, and shared Alfred Nobel´s vision on the prize, --“Nobel Prizes should be awarded to those who have conferred the greatest benefit to mankind.” He encouraged students to study hard and be innovative. “Ideas can change the world,” he said.

Carl-Henrik Heldin has been the Branch Director of the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research in Uppsala, Sweden since 1986, and Professor in Molecular Cell Biology at Uppsala University since 1992. He was born in 1952, and obtained a PhD degree in Medical and Physiological Chemistry in 1980 at the University of Uppsala, where he continued to work until 1985 in a position sponsored by the Swedish Cancer Society. He is currently Vice-President of the European Research Council and the Chair of the Board of the Nobel Foundation.
