French Foreign Minister Delivers Speech at Tsinghua

French Minister of Foreign and European Affairs and State Minister Alain Juppe visited and delivered a speech at Tsinghua University on September 13. Mr. Jacques Valade, French Ambassador for Asia, and Ms. Sylvie Bermann, French Ambassador to China, accompanied Mr. Juppe on his visit.

Tsinghua University Council Chairman Hu Heping had a discussion with Mr. Juppe prior to the speech. They expressed the hope that more cooperation could be built between Tsinghua and French universities and companies in the coming years. Tsinghua Vice President Yuan Si also participated in the meeting.

During his speech, Mr. Juppe introduced the current foreign policy of France and reviewed the cooperation between France and China. He noted that both France and China attach great importance to technological and culture exchanges and that cooperation has been established in many fields between the two countries. He also talked about the global challenges, including the economic crisis, climate change, environmental protection and sustainable development.
