Students from Tsinghua University started Internship at Takeda in Japan

Four students from Tsinghua University started their internship at Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited (“Takeda”) in Japan on July 1st, 2011. Two of them, who are from the Department of Chemistry, will have a 3-month internship, while the internship of the other 2 who come from the School of Humanities and Social Sciences will last for 6 weeks. The interns will learn about business management, research at Takeda.

Takeda started an internship program for Japanese students in 2004, and the accumulated number of students to date is approximately 600, who have gained work experience at the R&D or Sales functions of the company. The internship program for students from Tsinghua University is the first one for Takeda and even for the pharmaceutical industry in Japan to receive Chinese students. This internship program is expected to encourage the students from China understand more about a Japanese company’s business activities, and at the same time, to give Takeda’s employees an opportunity to learn ideas from the Chinese students that would be new to the company.
“Many Chinese students are interested in engaging in global business, and I believe that this internship program will provide such students with a good opportunity to learn about the business activities of a Japanese company and to gain valuable experiences,” said Yasuchika Hasegawa, President & CEO of Takeda. “I expect that this would serve for broadening the exchanges between young generation talents in China and Japan in the near future.”
