University Council Chairman Hu Heping Visits Some Universities in the U.S.A. and Canada

Tsinghua University Council Chairman Hu Heping visited the University of California in Berkeley, Stanford University, and, in Canada, the University of British Columbia, the University of Alberta, and the University of Toronto from May 21 to 28.

In the U.S.A., Chairman Hu met with Professor Robert Birgeneau, Chancellor of the University of California in Berkeley and Professor James Plummer, Chair of the School of Engineering at Stanford University, and he exchanged ideas with senior administrators of the two universities on faculty development, teaching administration and interdisciplinary research. Hu also attended the North America Evening Party in honor of the 100th anniversary of Tsinghua, held by the Silicon Valley Tsinghua alumni association and the inaugural ceremony for the Tsinghua Foundation for new hundred years in North America. Hu also visited the McGovern Institute for Brain Research at MIT.

At the University of British Columbia, Hu visited the School of Medicine and had discussions with President Stephen Toope and Provost David Farrar.

Hu also talked with Professors Indira Samarasekera and Carl Amrhein, President and Provost, respectively, of the University of Alberta. They exchanged ideas on further promoting cooperation in energy and environment. After the talk, Hu paid visits to several research centers of the University of Alberta.

Hu visited the University of Toronto on May 27 and met with President David Naylor and Vice President Judith Wolfson. They discussed future cooperation in student exchange and collaboration in life sciences and medicine.
