Tsinghua Student Won Prize in International Public Speaking Competition

The 2011 International Public Speaking Competition closed in London on May 27th. Xu Jiru, a first year student from School of Law, together with her tutor Wu Xia from the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures, stood out among 82 national and rigional champions and runners-up from 49 countries and regions around the world. Xu outperformed other contestants, including native speakers from Australia, England & Whales and Canada, in the heat and the semi-final, and made her way to the grand final, becaming one of the 6 grand-finalists. Mr Qin Gang, Minister & DHM of Chinese Embassy in the UK, also former spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, came in person to the grand-final. He spoke highly of Xu’s performance as well as the great achievements in English teaching of Tsinghua University.
