Tsinghua Centenary Celebration Gala Held

The Tsinghua Centenary Celebration Gala was held in front of Tsinghua’s Main Building April 24. State Councilor Liu Yandong, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress Hua Jianmin, former Procurator-General of the Supreme People Procuratorate Jia Chunwang, Tsinghua University President Gu Binglin, Tsinghua University Council Chairman Hu Heping, and more than ten thousand students, faculty and alumni attended the celebration.
The night’s weather was perfect, with an exciting festive ambience around the large area where the event took place. The assemblage of special effects combined with the moving harmony of the music worked impeccably well together to deliver a performance worthy of a hundred years of history.
Tonight’s gala marks the climax of months of preparations leading to the Centenary Celebration Festivities. Organizers, performers and staff worked with great effort and pride to deliver a flawless and brilliant show worthy of the Tsinghua name.
The gala first paid homage to Tsinghua’s rich history as memorable photos of faculties, class field trips and student life of alumni were displayed causing excitement amongst the crowd as feelings of nostalgia strongly came rushing back to the hearts of many. Despite Tsinghua’s vast number of faculties and programs, the gala was able to deliver a rich and diverse number of performances from these faculties as performers ranged from alumni to current local and international students.
The gala delivered a balanced glimpse of the many aspects of Tsinghua University. Firstly, a portion of the show was dedicated to all the professors who had imparted their knowledge to the minds of Tsinghua students. Secondly, local students sang songs which regaled the crowd with tales of the rich student life experience by covering themes of personal discovery to finding true love within the university. Thirdly, special performances were given by the international students to show their gratitude and appreciation to be attending Tsinghua University. Their repeated chants of “I love you Tsinghua” is a proof of the school’s powerful ability to reach the hearts and minds of all students regardless of country or nationality.
