Mr. Gianni Alemanno, the Mayor of Rome, visited Tsinghua University on October 12 and delivered a speech in the Tsinghua Global Vision Lectures Series. Members of the delegation led by Mr. Alemanno also included Mr. Umberto Vattani, Chairman of the Italian Trade Commission and Mr. Livio De Santoli, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Rome.

In a discussion with Mr. Alemanno, Tsinghua University Vice President Yuan Si gave a brief introduction to the university's cultivation of talent, endeavors in international cooperation, and preparation for its centenary in April 2011. The two expressed the hope that more collaboration could be undertaken between Tsinghua and the University of Rome in the coming years and that such cooperation could contribute to broader exchanges and friendship between China and Italy.

In his speech, Mr. Alemanno talked about the importance of combining development and innovation to protect cultural heritage. He also discussed the plan for the future development of Rome.
