The 28th Annual Innovative Technology Exhibition was held on the Tsinghua campus on April 24 as part of the university's 99th anniversary. Tsinghua President Gu Binglin, Chairman of the University Council Hu Heping and other senior administrators attended the opening ceremony. Over 1,000 students participated in the competition, and 60 innovation ideas and works went into the final round and oral defense, according to the Zijing Times, an unofficial student newspaper.

Tsinghua Vice President Kang Kejun spoke at the opening ceremony, noting that the university attached great importance to innovation. Works in honor of the Tsinghua centenary next year were also displayed at the exhibition. One of these was a robot capable of simulating human actions, such as holding a glass of water in the palm of its hand without spilling it. "This technology could be used for work under harsh conditions and for ordinary housekeeping," said Chang Zhang, Vice Chairperson of the Tsinghua students' science and technology association. Visitors could give feedback and vote for their favorite works.
