Tsinghua University President Gu Binglin attended the Fourth Global Colloquium of University Presidents hosted by Yale University on January 14th and 15th.
President Gu spoke at the meeting. He talked about how to enhance international scientific and technological cooperation to solve global problems as well as how to further promote the development of research capabilities of developing countries. President Gu emphasized the importance of international cooperation in facing challenges. He called for establishing a global research fund to support research in such fields as climate change. Taking the Tsinghua, Cambridge and MIT Alliance for Low Carbon Energy as an example, he also stressed the importance of establishing joint research institutions between developed and developing countries to deal with global problems.
Secretary General of United Nations Ban Ki-moon, former Mexican President Ernesto Zedillo and the presidents of such renowned institutions as Yale University, Columbia University, New York University, Princeton University, the University of Pennsylvania, Oxford University, and Fudan University also attended the colloquium.
