Professor Lloyd Minor, Provost of Johns Hopkins University, visited Tsinghua on January 7th. Tsinghua University President Gu Binglin had a discussion with Professor Minor on that day. Tsinghua Deputy President Chen Jining also participated in the discussion. They exchanged ideas on broader future collaboration in the life sciences, including joint research and faculty and student exchange. They also discussed possibilities of cooperation in summer lab research programs and joint education.

The Tsinghua-Johns Hopkins Joint Center for Biomedical Engineering Research opened in 2008.
