Dr. Andreas Pinkwart, Minister of Innovation, Science, Research and Technology in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia, visited Tsinghua on November 17. Eight University leaders including Professor Ernst M. Schmachtenberg, Rector of RWTH Aachen, Professor Elmar Weiler, Rector of the Ruhr University in Bochum, Professor Jürgen Fohrmann, Rector of the University of Bonn, Professor Ursula Gather, Rector of the Technical University in Dortmund, Professor Hans Michael Piper, Rector of the University of Düsseldorf, Professor Ulrich Radtke, Rector of the University of Duisburg-Essen, Professor Axel Freimuth, Rector of the University of Cologne, and Professor Johann Peter Schäfer, Chancellor of the University of Siegen, and Professor Harald Bolt, Chairman of the Energy and Environment Division at the Jülich Research Center, accompanied Dr. Pinkwart on his visit.

Tsinghua University President Gu Binglin had a discussion with Dr. Pinkwart and the other members of the German delegation, exchanging ideas on university development and cooperation. The reviewed the Tsinghua-RWTH Aachen joint masters degree program and expressed the hope that collaboration between Tsinghua and German universities could be expanded in the coming years.

After the talk, experts from Tsinghua and German universities had further discussions about their cooperation.
