The 2009 HLHL (Ho Leung Ho Lee) Prize conferral ceremony was held in Beijing on November 10. Professor Zhang Xiaowen of Tsinghua Univesity won the HLHL Prize for Science and Technology Progress, and Professor Luo Yongzhang from Tsinghua's School of Life Sciences received the HLHL Prize for Innovation. Four alumni of Tsinghua also won HLHL Prizes.

Since they were established in 1994, the HLHL Prizes have been awarded to 850 outstanding scientists in China. In 2009, one scientist won the HLHL Prize for Science and Technology Achievements, 30 won the HLHL Prize for Science and Technology Progress, and 15 received HLHL Prizes for Innovation.
