The 2002 Nobel Prize winner in Physiology or Medicine Professor John E. Sulston, who serves as the Director of the Institute for Science, Ethics and Innovation at The University of Manchester's Faculty of Life Sciences in Great Britain, delivered a speech at Tsinghua on March 30 entitled “Who Owns Science?” The Tsinghua School of Public Policy and Management Dean Xue Lan, who is the Director of the China Institute for Science and Technology Policy, hosted the speech which was attended by nearly 70 students and teachers from various departments.
In his speech, Professor Sulston focused on ethics and innovation as important areas for scientific research. He also talked about global medicine and health care and compared policy initiatives in different countries. The speech was followed by a lively discussion session.
