Dr. Bruce Alberts, Science Editor-in-Chief, delivered an address to the Tsinghua Forum on September 23rd entitled “Science and the World’s Future”. Vice Director Dr. Shi Yigong of Tsinghua’s Institute of Biomedicine hosted the speech.

Tsinghua University President Gu Binglin had a discussion with Dr. Alberts prior to the speech. President Gu introduced Dr. Alberts to Tsinghua’s initiatives in education, disciplines development, outstanding faculty recruitment, fundraising, and international cooperation. The two exchanged ideas on the development of research.

In his address in the Reception Hall of the Main Building, Dr. Alberts shared details and anecdotes about his life in research and his ideas on science development. The address received a warm welcome from students.

Dr. Alberts had a discussion later that day with faculty and teachers from Tsinghua and other universities in Beijing.

Dr. Alberts began his tenure as Science Editor-in-Chief on March 1, 2008. He is also a Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics at the University of California, San Francisco, a position he returned to in 2005 after serving two six-year terms as President of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) in Washington, D.C.
