Tsinghua President Gu Binglin visited Russia from May 28 to June 5. During his visit, President Gu participated in the International Forum on Education attended also by leaders from more than thirty world-class universities. President Gu delivered a speech at the Forum. He and his delegation also visited the M.V. Lomonosov Moscow State University, the State-run Bowman Technology University, St. Petersburg State University of Economics and Finance, the St. Petersburg State Polytechnical University, Russian State University for the Humanities, and the Far East Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences during his nine day visit. Tsinghua Vice President Xie Weihe accompanied the visit.

At the International Forum at St. Petersburg State Polytechnical University, President Gu delivered a speech on “Strengthening International Cooperation and Academic Partnership: Research Universities take the lead” and participated in a round-table meeting for university leaders on the roles of the university in science and research, education, and innovative cooperation among countries.

During his visit, President Gu had a discussion with Professor Sadovnichii Victor Antonovich, President of M.V. Lomonosov Moscow State University. The two presidents signed a contract for cooperation between Tsinghua and M.V. Lomonosov Moscow State University.

At St. Petersburg State University of Economics and Finance, President Gu discussed cooperation and exchange issues with the Rector Professor Maximtsev I.A. and the President Professor Tarasevich L.S.. President Gu was awarded an honorary doctorate by the St. Petersburg State University of Economics and Finance.

President Gu also had talks with the Chinese Ambassador to Russia Liu Guchang, Minister-Counselor Pei Yufang, and Chinese Consul General in St. Petersburg Tian Erlong. They exchanged ideas on Sino-Russia relations and education cooperation.
