The Beijing Olympic torch was ignited on May 8th on Mt. Qomolangma.  Tsinghua alumnus Yan Dongdong participated in the torch lighting ceremony as a member of the backup team. He is the first Tsinghua climber to climb to the top of Mt. Qomolangma.

Yan Dongdong was a student in Tsinghua’s Department of Biological Sciences and Biotechnology. He graduated in 2005. He was a member of the Tsinghua Climbing Team and has been conquering mountains ever since. Mt. Qomolangma is his latest conquest and a first for a climber associated with Tsinghua.
