A meeting was held in the Auditorium on April 27 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Tsinghua’s Student Art Troupe. Tsinghua University President Gu Binglin, Honorary Chairman of the University Council Wang Dazhong, Vice Chairperson of the University Council Han Jingyang, Tsinghua Vice President Yuan Si, Vice Chairperson of the University Council Shi Zongkai and guests and alumni also attended the meeting.
The Student Art Troupe was formed in 1958. With total membership of nearly 1,000, the Troupe is made up of such multi-specialized groups as the military band, the traditional instruments orchestra, the choir, the philharmonic orchestra, the dance group, the drama troupe, the keyboard instrument band, the ballroom dance group, the traditional Chinese Quyi team, the Beijing Opera theatre group, and the painting group. The troupe strives to promote the classical arts and culture of China.

Tsinghua President Gu Binglin noted in his address to the audience that art education helps cultivate students with innovative spirits and enriches campus cultural life.
Activities in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Troupe also included an exhibition and an evening concert.
