A meeting was held April 26 in the Auditorium to mark the 50th anniversary of the Department of Engineering Mechanics. Tsinghua President Gu Binglin, engineering mechanics experts, and alumni attended the ceremony.

President Gu extended his congratulations to the Department of Engineering Mechanics. He hoped they would continue to pursue excellence and make even greater contributions to science and development in the future. He encouraged the faculty to continue to cultivate young talent possessed of innovative spirit and construct first-class research teams.

The Department of Engineering Mechanics was established in 1958 to focus on developing the research in aerospace technologies. Since its establishment, such famous scholars as Qian Xuesen, Qian Weichang, Zhang Wei, Du Qinghua, Huang Kezhi, Guo Zengyuan and Yang Wei have devoted their spirit and learning to laying a solid foundation for the School of Aerospace.
