
Finnish Minister of Culture Tanja Karpela visited Tsinghua Sept. 13 and delivered a speech that focused on the development of design in Finland.
Zhuang Lijun, vice chairperson of the University Council, welcomed Ms. Karpela and gave an outline of the history, students, faculty, research and international cooperation of Tsinghua.
Ms. Karpela delivered a speech for students, saying that the importance of international cooperation has always been appreciated in Finland, and cultural cooperation between China and Finland should be carried out in many forms and at various levels.

She reviewed the collaboration between the two countries in culture, education and technology fields, and gave some background information about the Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture, Finnish cultural policy, and the University of Art and Design in Helsinki.
Born in 1970, Ms. Karpela became Finland’s Minister of Culture in 2003.
