Tsinghua among Top Ten for National Social Science Funding Projects

Tsinghua has been granted 14 of the 2002 National Social Science Funding Projects, becoming one of the nation's top ten schools to undertake the prestigious work and ranking eighth among all universities in the country.

Three of the major projects were "The Translation and Annotation of the Collected Works of Plato" by the School of Humanities and Social Science; "WTO Guanrantee Measures Agreement and Related State Legislative Research" by the School of Law; and "Research on the Influence of the 2008 Olympic Games on Chinese Society and Economy" by the Teaching and Research Division of Physical Culture.

Compared with last year's results, Tsinghua has surpassed Xiamen University, Sichuan University, Central China Normal University, Jilin University, the Central Government Party School, and Shandong University, and equaled Beijing Normal University and Zhejiang University.

Of the 14 projects awarded to Tsinghua, five will be carried out by the School of Humanities and Social Science; two by the School of Economics and Management; two by the School of Public Policy and Management; two by the School of Law; one by the Teaching and Research Division of Physical Culture; one by the Library; and one by the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering.

In the last three years, remarkable achievements have been made in the arts at Tsinghua, as a result of the National Social Science Funding Project, the Humanities and Social Science Funding Project of the Ministry of Education, and the Philosophical Social Science Planning Project of Beijing. In addition, a number of papers have been published in the three major arts indexes (SSCI, A&HCI, and CSSCI), and the Arts Research Center was built.

Owing to its rapid development since 1999, Tsinghua has been increasing its national social science funding projects year by year. In 2000, Tsinghua undertook seven national social science funding projects, ranking 18th in the country, and 15th among universities. It marked a slight improvement over 2001, when Tsinghua was given 11 projects, ranking 16th in the country, and 14th among universities.
